Variety is nice, but traditional is best

The holidays are some of the most important and some of the best times of the year: Getting together to spend time with family, celebrating the holidays, enjoying family traditions. One part that everyone looks forward to during the holidays is the food. So many different foods to choose from and by the time you’re done eating, there’s a feeling of having a food baby.

Yes, food is an important part to look forward to during the holidays. Not everyone eats the same foods for the holidays. Traditionally, the holiday food that is the most popular is ham or turkey. Along with the ham, there would be mashed potatoes, gravy, and a few other options as well. Another common food that would be considered traditional is turkey.

There’s also people that tend to eat “non-traditional” holiday foods. These would be considered foods that people usually don’t see or normally eat for the holidays.  I personally don’t think these types of foods are bad for the holidays. Sometimes it is nice to change up the foods for the holidays.

Along with eating traditional and non-traditional foods, there are also people who eat out for the holidays. Sometimes people end up in situations like the Christmas story and they have to go to a Chinese restaurant for Christmas dinner. Not too many restaurants are open on thanksgiving, but when some are people take full advantage of it. Places such as Golden Corral are open and tons of people go there because it is cheap and there is a big variety of foods. This also makes it easier for families that have kids that won’t eat turkey or ham.

Of course, I can’t forget about the people that want to eat healthy for the holidays. There will be people that are on diets or people that just eat healthy all the time. With this, normally there will probably be lots of vegetables and plant-based foods. Some plant-based foods don’t taste that bad and you can’t tell the differences between plant-based and non-plant-based foods.

All in all, I would have to pick either eating traditional foods or non-traditional foods. Depending on whose house I go to for the holidays, I will eat ham and turkey the traditional way. Sometimes, I will have smoked ribs, pulled pork, or many other options. I like eating non-traditional foods because it’s a nice change, but traditional foods you can just never go wrong with.
