Breaking news: classes start an hour earlier
October 16, 2020
Online classes will begin one hour earlier at 8 am starting on October 20. Classes will be two minutes shorter while the passing period will be one minute shorter. This prepares students for the schedule for in-person schooling. The cut in time allows the school to not provide lunches to students to minimize time without masks in the building.
“By law, we have to provide students with a lunch period if we exceed a 5 hour day. To minizine the risk of the spread of Covid, we cannot have students eat lunch. Thus, in order to have students in the building, we needed to shorten class time and passing periods by a minute or two,” Chris Chlebeck, principal, said.
When students return to the building, classes will continue to start at 8 am to continue on the new schedule.
“Although this is subject to change, the plan, as of now, is to keep the schedule as it is. Obviously, at some point, we will need to move the schedule back to a 7 a.m. start, however, I do not know what that time will be,” Chlebeck said.
To allow students time to prepare for the new schedule, students will not have to join class zoom calls on Monday, October 19, and will do classwork at their time of choice.
