Six journalism students qualified for the IHSA state competition in 5 events: senior Edwin
Guardado placed 3rd in yearbook caption writing, senior Luis Gonzalez placed 2nd in infographics,
junior David Castellucci placed 3rd in review writing, junior Jack Plewa placed 3rd
in newspaper design, and the team of sophomore Brittney Ebner and senior Lily Calderon
placed 3rd in Yearbook Theme Development. Plewa went on to earn a 6th place medal at the
state meet.
“ I was very surprised that I took 6th place because this was my first year competing,” Plewa
said. “Competing was very fun and not stressful at all! I can’t wait to compete again so I can try
to place in the top 3.”
