Girls basketball ready to compete
December 3, 2015
The varsity girl’s basketball team has begun their season with preparations for success. With a combination of offseason training as well as strenuous practices, the girls feel as if they are very well prepared. However, wtih a record of two wins and four losses, They know they need to step it up.
“The biggest obstacle is figuring out how to win close games. Our goal is to finish strong every game,” Head Coach Greg Bayer said.
The girl’s training has also allowed them to become closer to achieving their own personal goals for this season.
“I want to get better individually and as a team overall, all while winning some games as well,” Bailee McDaniel, senior, said.
Not only are the girls working hard, but they are also attempting to make the most of this season.
“My main goals are to get the team better, win some games, but mostly to just have fun this season,” Hennessey Handy, senior, said.
As for team goals, the girls all want to be able to fully compete against their opponents.
“Getting better is our main goal, but we need to also be able to maintain that skill throughout the season,” Erin Grafen, junior, said.
“We want to be able to compete. In the past we’ve had a pretty shaky reputation, so we hope to change that this year,” McDaniel said.
The girls are also prepared to overcome their struggles as a team by coming together and working even harder.
Both Handy and McDaniel agree that “this year we need to work on our man to man defense and to keep the offense in motion.”
All of these aspects will come into play when the Lady Wildcats face their conference rival, Plainfield North on Tuesday, Jan 5 at 5 p.m.
“We have had a hard time against North in the past, so overall I want the team to be better prepared and to come out strong,” McDaniel said.
“We need to come together as a team and really push ourselves if we want to do well against North,” Handy said. The next game is at home on Friday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
