When the United States was founded, the government was based on the Ancient Roman system of government. Founders of the US utilized Ancient Roman concepts such as elected officials, vetoes, and checks and balances. Unfortunately, some concepts were left out. I say, in order to fix the current state of the government— rich people in control and threatening to take over other countries— we need to go back to our roots. Replicate that Ancient Roman government exactly.
Ancient Rome had wealthy dictators and emperors, yes, but they shared the wealth. I will happily elect a dictator for life so long as I get rich as a result. The second someone brings me spoils of war, they have my vote. Of course, many people care about trivial things like morality, and justice, and will fight against a life-long oligarch. So, said hypothetical oligarch, in order to gain the support of the people, must do as Julius Caesar did: fight the government.
Win a civil war, distribute the wealth, put me in their will, and any oligarch will have my respect and my vote. If the senate were to become angry about the amount of power wielded by a dictator for life, it is certainly none of my concern. If a second civil war breaks out because of it, I’ll just throw my support behind whoever has the best speech.
The simple reason why we are failing to thrive and take over nearly all of Europe like Ancient Rome did is because we thought we could improve Democracy, but we cannot. Is Democracy not voting for the people who made you rich and giving them ultimate power? Many current politicians have only made themselves rich. Bribe us. Bribe the people.
