The boys basketball team ended the season with a 2-28 record.
Head coach Tim Boe is proud of his team, as “the winter season is long and can be difficult no matter what your record is.” According to Boe, the team has had tons of patience and they have worked hard the entire season. With the team being 14 juniors and only one senior, they had less experience than teams with a lot of seniors playing for them.
“The biggest challenges were handling inexperience and dealing with the physicality and pace with us being all juniors,” junior Phoenix Jones said.
An upside of having mostly juniors is that a lot of the team will return for another year with the experience of already playing a whole season together.
“We have potential now that we know what it takes,” junior Alassane Diop said.
For junior Stephon Griffin, confidence is very high for the future of the team. He believes the experience this year was valuable and knows improvement for next year is possible.
Coach Boe believes that the team is close to being where they want to be and wants to see the team succeed.
“My coaching philosophy has always been to put our guys in position to be successful,” Boe said.
During the offseason, players continue to improve by playing for a team outside the school. Junior Alexis Landfair Jr. plans on playing for an AAU team to “get better and improve overall skills” this offseason.
Landfair has finished his junior year strong, being awarded athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 4 through Feb. 7 for impressive performances that included a win over conference opponent Joliet Central
Coach Boe believes that improvement does not happen “just because you get older” and hard work is needed to get better.
“We will get better because we will continue to work and have a great offseason,” Boe said.
