The Wildcats Competitive dance team is clawing their way to the top with the team improving every day on their routines to keep competing for the win.
The team has accomplished a great acheivment by becoming Sectional Champions and advancing to state! They compete at Grossinger Motor Arena in Bloomington, IL on Fri. Jan. 31 at 6:13 p.m.
“I really hope this team goes to IHSA state. They are the most hard-working and dedicated team I’ve ever coached so I’d love to see them perform our routine on the state floor, it’s magical,” head coach, Rebecca Vickers, said.
There is a lot to achieve during the season and the team is working hard at trying to make their dreams/goals happen.
“My personal goal for this season is to just keep improving and working together,” senior, Evelyn Minott, said. “I think I’m a good leader and I’m encouraging to my teammates.”
The whole team works hard to make sure they can be proud of their routines and have a lot of opportunities where they learn more than just dance.
“Being on the team throughout high school taught me how to balance out my personal life versus my dance life,” senior, Emma Konow, said. “My favorite memory from this season was when we placed at comp because it had shown us that our hard work paid off.”
Hard work is not the only thing that gets the team through the season but also the bonds that they have built with each other.
“I enjoy the social aspect, it’s a great way to make friends. We had practices in the summer and it was a really great opportunity to meet new people,” Natalie Prah, freshman, said. “It’s really cool that I have friends who are in different grades. As a freshman, I’m really good friends with seniors as well.”
The team has had dance impact them from making new friends, learning new lessons, to making great accomplishes.
“I enjoy being with my friends and having funny moments during practice all the time. I also enjoy the accomplishments that we make,” Bailee Vitanovec, sophomore, said. “Dance has impacted me in a positive way during my high school career because it has made me the person I am today by teaching me so many lessons about life.”
Even the coach has learned for the team, how to push through challenges they might face.
“I’m extremely competitive and am not always the best sport but the girls are always so positive and supportive of other teams,” Vickers said. “I truly think their biggest rival is themselves which makes them so fun to coach. They just want to keep getting better.”
