For this edition of Tastes with Tyler, I took a trip down 59 to Milkshake and Cookies.
One positive right away is that it is open even in the colder months. Most ice cream shops close after the summer season, so Milkshake and Cookies being open year round is a huge plus.
As the name of the shop entails, I tried a milkshake and a cookie, but I also was able to try an assortment of macaroons and a specialty hot chocolate!
The shake flavor I tried was made with Roadrunner Raspberry ice cream: white chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirls and raspberry filled chocolate cups. The shake was my favorite item. The freshness of the raspberry flavor mixed exceptionally with the milkiness of the shake and the chocolate bits added a nice touch as a secondary flavor.
The peanut butter flavored cookie was one of the best cookies I have ever had. All the cookies are baked fresh and this one was sensational. Many times peanut butter can be way too strong and hard to eat; in the case of this cookie the flavor was strong enough to come across as a distinct flavor but was still light enough to enjoy. I also like that they gave an option to warm up the cookie; I took the option and it elevated the cookie up another level.
The macaroons I had were pistachio, vanilla, and blue berry flavored. The pistachio was easily the best one, with a light taste that was not overpowering. The vanilla macaroon was just okay and lacked any distinct flavor. The blueberry one was disappointing at best and left a floral aftertaste that was shocking and displeasing.
The specialty drink was called the Magical Hot Chocolate, flavored with strawberry milk and white chocolate and topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, and rainbow marshmallows. I was a tad disappointed as the flavors fought each other and no exact flavor was distinguishable. For being a specialty hot chocolate, nothing about it was actually special.
Overall however, I was pleased with most aspects. The service was quick and friendly and 40 dollars for a variety of items seems reasonable to me. The downfalls come from the inconsistent macaroons and the mediocre at best hot chocolate. Other than those two things everything else was great. I will definitely be going back to try other flavors of ice cream and the various cookies they have. I definitely recommend Milkshake and Cookies for a quick and tasty treat especially because they’re open year round. I give Milkshake and Cookies a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
