English teacher, golf coach, speech team adviser, and DJ, Brandon Sanders has done it all in his eventful life to this point and plans on continuing shedding a constant light in whatever he pursues next.
“I’ve had 34 different jobs in my life. My first job was a pizza delivery boy. Then from there, I’ve kind of done everything. I’ve worked in fast food. I’ve worked in customer service. I’ve been a salesman. Worked in radio, done construction. You can name it and I’ve probably done some form of it,” Sanders said.
With the diverse jobs Sanders has done, one of the most prominent would be being a seafood chef in North Carolina.
“Our chef had just put in his two weeks. The manager asked if I would like to be the new chef? I was like, I’ll have to learn but I’m willing and he said, will you come in tomorrow about two hours earlier than what you did today? And I’ll give you the ropes of the kitchen and get you started,” Sanders said.
Sanders was excited for this new opportunity but still had a lot to learn before becoming a chef.
“I went in two hours earlier and he taught me everything. Showed me everything I needed to know and then he had this other guy Samuel Clampson. We called him Clammy. Clammy showed me the ropes and throughout my time there after just a couple weeks, I met some locals and got to know them. I’d make chef specials and stuff, and yeah I got to be a seafood chef,” Sanders said.
Since doing these past jobs, Sanders’ most recent endeavor has been becoming a DJ and starting a company.
“So I just started Sanders Music Services about a year and a half ago. It’s taken off and it’s great. I’ve always loved DJing and the ability to read a room and understand what is right for the right moment,” Sanders said. “Also the ability to work with people and bring them joy at a price that is advantageous to them. But also allows my wife to stay home and for us to have extra spending money and all that good stuff too.”
Along with being a DJ, Sanders has spent the last few years being an English teacher and golf coach.
“I’ve been a high school English teacher for seven years, but for five years prior I worked as a Special Ed Assistant for students with Autism in a K-4 building,” Sanders said.
With being an English teacher for the last few years Sanders has been able to gain and build friendships with staff and students.
“I like how Mr. Sanders has a similar personality and sense of humor as me, so with how crazy my mind can get sometimes, he’s right there on the same plane,” English teacher, Robert Richardson IV, said. “He’s always been great at developing relationships with staff and students, and he’s really easy to get along with.”
Sanders has made an impact on numerous people’s lives, which include the golf team.
“He’s a caring person when people are having a hard time, and is helpful whenever you need him,” freshmen Mckenzie Listermann said.
Not only does Sanders bring positivity to the team but he also strives to push the girls to their full potential.
“My favorite memory is when I was feeling down and tired during my match, he told me to keep playing how I’m playing, that I’m almost there and if I keep playing strong, I will advance to the next round,” golf captain Yamille Gonazlez, senior, said. “And I did. He encouraged and helped me to do my best instead of giving up.”
For the past 2 years he’s been an assistant coach for girls golf and has continued to make a difference in people’s lives.
“I appreciate his energy that I can’t always bring and his enthusiasm. As an assistant coach he fulfills everything that a head coach could ask of him to do,” golf head coach Josh Bloodgood said.
Sanders’ past experiences have shaped his journey, leaving an impact on his students, athletes, and colleagues. His passion for coaching, teaching, and entertaining continues to uplift and inspire those around him.
