Some might not know what Wilco is, but once they hear about it they will want to learn more and possibly join it. Wilco is a program in which students can take classes with Joliet Junior College that align with their career interests after high school.
Every student should take part in the Wilco opportunity because it gives them a chance to experience what they are interested in pursuing. I take ACE with Wilco, which is Architecture, Construction, and Engineering. I’ve learned so much more about all three of those topics than I have since I’ve been interested in them.
It is also nice that a bus service is provided for some of the courses; however, for my sister and I the bus is not an option since our class is at JJC and not the Wilco center. The teachers are understanding with knowing we are high school students, and they make sure the classroom experience is enjoyable.
According to a recent Fielder survey, 50% of the 40 students surveyed have either attended or are planning on attending Wilco, which goes to show that students are interested in the program and looking for a way to learn more about a specific field. If a student decides to take Wilco and goes into that field, then they already know the basis of the class they will take to major in it.
I can’t talk for the other students, but I am sure some others would agree that taking a Wilco class is very beneficial. Wilco gives students the opportunity to take a college class, which usually costs a lot more if taken with the college instead of the high school. Since the classes count for college credits, students will have the advantage of not starting from the beginning once they enter college.
There are also other students from other schools in each class, so it gives students a chance to make new friends and learn from new people. It’s good to meet new people who have the same interests and have someone to connect with over it.
Overall, Wilco is a very beneficial class to help students understand more about what they want to do, so I recommend it for anyone who wants to do it.
