Band is hosting its 26th annual Plainfield Band Craft Show.
The craft show will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to the public and free of charge for anyone under 18.
“The Craft Show is a community staple,” Chris Vanderwall, band director said.
The proceeds from the Craft Show support all four high school bands with 100% of the profit going toward purchasing new instruments
Typically, 200 unique crafters are in attendance each year.
“These are not businesses with typical brick-and-mortar storefronts that you can visit on a daily basis, and all the crafts are made by hand,” Vanderwall said.
Grace Newberry, junior, and third-year volunteer, says that many of the items available are specifically “tailored to many hobbies or interests.”
Other than crafts, the show will also have concessions available for purchase and raffles for the visitors to participate in.
“Other than volunteering, I went to one; It’s fun, there’s usually candy, and you can find some cool stuff for sale,” Caleb Mcmillan, senior and fourth year volunteer said.
Despite this, many students tend to not show up.
“It’s mostly seen as an activity for adults,” Owen Cortese, senior and fourth year volunteer, said, “ but students can enjoy it just as much”.
“Crafters sign up an entire year in advance, and many of our community members have been attending for many years. It’s a great event for our community that has become a tremendous fundraiser for the district’s band programs,” Vanderwall said.
An all-volunteer crew of band teachers, students, and student’s parents runs the Plainfield Craft Show.
“Students volunteer to help set up the crafters’ booths and assist them throughout the day, it is amazing for both volunteers and shoppers,” Jonah Francois, junior and second year volunteer, said.
“We’ve had volunteers working on the organization of our Craft Show for the past year leading up to this year’s event, and we greatly appreciate all they do to help support us,” Vanderwall said.
