Girls Tennis is on the road to victory with a record of 3-2-1. The team has done a fantastic job this season by pushing through tough times and continue to progress throughout the season.
“Everybody’s potential is different but become the best version of you whatever that may be. If you’ve been playing at the varsity level for a few years, you kind of know what the varsity level is all about and what the expectations are and what you need to do,” Gregg Bayer, head coach, said. “If your a first-year varsity player, it’s going to be a little bit more challenging, but everybody’s own potential, which if they reach that, they’re going to be in a good spot.”
The goal for the season is to get the girls to reach their maximum strength and prove that they can do anything they put their minds to.
“I think that we can be a really good team, but I think that we do have to work for it like other teams in the past have,” Emily Dillingham, junior, said. “We all know that we’re gonna have a form of success, but I think this team is just going to have to work for it a bit harder.”
The girls on the team want to have a great and strong finish for the end of the tennis season.
“This tennis season I hope our team continues to grow. As a personal goal, it’s state or bust time. Making new friends, and finishing my high school career strong,” Rebecca Linko, senior, said.
Even though they have to work more for success the team wants to have fun while also beating the competition.
“Tennis has helped me make genuine friends and stay active. It has taught me that everything isn’t about winning. You also strive for that, but it’s more important to have fun while playing,” Linko, said.
While winning and having the support of the team, they also love how close they all have become and hope to continue building those connections and relationships with each other throughout the year.
“Tennis has helped me through high school by introducing me to new people and really creating family out of a team,” Hannah Linko, senior, said. “Tennis has taught me that finding the balance in your life, with, school, and sports is very crucial to maintaining a calm and positive outlook on life.”
Some girls use tennis as a way to go through life and enjoy it to the max and others use it to learn valuable things and a way to connect with other people.
“I love meeting new people at different schools, observing and playing amongst different playing techniques teaches you new tricks and it makes you better,” Jennifer Oceguera, senior, said.
