Cool music! Flashing lights! Explosions! Marvel intro!
Is Marvel having a comeback? With new series to stream, movies to watch, and much more, Disney has been churning out Marvel material non-stop. The ultimate question, of course, is if this new material is any good. The school is torn.
English teacher Jeffery Jett believes that Marvel is having a bit of a comeback.
“It’s better than it’s been in some time,” Jett said.
Jett believes that Marvel can do better if they have more plans for what to do with their stories and have a clear idea of what they want the outcome to be.
On the other side of the argument, senior Vee Kubiak believes that Marvel is not having a comeback.
“The movies and shows haven’t had the same thought and care put into it. They seem to be trying to just shove new entertainment into fans’ arms without truly understanding what fans want,” Kubiak said.
Chris Johnston, sophomore, has a different opinion.
“Sure, the new movies and shows currently suck, but with some of these big ‘spotlight’ movies coming soon, Marvel may just have some record-breaking box office results,” Johnston said.
There are several new movies set to come out soon, including Captain America: Brave New World on Feb. 14 2025, fifth and sixth Avengers films, and a fourth Spider-Man.
The last Spider-Man movie, “No Way Home,” had a huge cliffhanger at the end. According to a recent Fielder survey, 51 out of 79 students said they would watch, and 20 were undecided. Many said that they wanted to watch it simply because it’s about Spider-Man, a fan-favorite character, and not because of the cliffhanger.
If Marvel has anything left to work with, it’s their characters. Many fans are no longer focused on the stories, but on their favorite characters. Tomas Coleman, junior, believes that the shows focusing on certain characters have fascinated some people.
“Some of them will [help], such as Loki opening the multiverse and time travel, Wanda Vision, and Hawkeye along with Falcon and the Winter Soldier opening the start of Young Avengers,” Coleman said.
Overall, it seems a few more good choices could help Marvel.
“I do believe that Marvel has a chance to make an amazing comeback, they just have to set their cards right,” Branden Cabanas, junior, said.
49 students who took an optional survey believe that Marvel is having a comeback. However, this may be called into question, as only 72 of 79 people who answered watch Marvel movies.
