The sequel to Beetlejuice was a true banger! Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, had a catchy soundtrack, effects, and an amazing cast. The movie consisted of running from a crazy ex and even having to come back to the living after falling for a ghost. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a fun movie to watch and I enjoyed it.
The movie had a fun twist on approaching a sequel without overdoing it. A risk they took was that the storyline didn’t go completely off the original movie. I usually think sequels are not very good but this movie took a risk and it paid off.
The daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, has a strained relationship with her mother Lydia Deetz (played by Winona Ryder) and doesn’t agree on everything. They are forced to come back together for the funeral of Lydia’s father Charles Deetz played by Jeffrey Jones and while they are in Lydia’s hometown, Winter River, Connecticut they run into Beetlejuice (played by Micheal Keaton) all over again. Beetlejuice is running from his ex-wife because she wants his soul and Lydia is trying to save Astrid because she was tricked and said she would give her life to a ghost so he could come back from the dead. So Beetlejuice and Lydia make a deal to try and save Astrid and save him from his ex.
The movie was well-made and had flashy and bright effects that were entertaining and creative. The soundtrack had a lot of different genres of music to listen to, which made it enjoyable. The beginning was a bit slow but when it started to get going it was interesting. The beginning took time to lay out what has happened between the first movie and the new one but I really think the characters developed well. The only thing I wish is that they had the original ghosts from the original movie. The original ghosts were the main characters of the first movie and were the whole reason that the Deetz family has multiple problems. It was great that they brought some of the original characters back and I thought it was a nice touch that they didn’t rewrite the whole cast and start a whole new storyline. I would give the movie 4 out of 5 stars since the beginning was slow and didn’t have the original ghosts, but otherwise, it was great and I would watch it again!
