For decades, Disney has made countless movies that both younger and older audiences have cherished. From tales as old as time to tales of Eywa. Though lately, Disney has started to change their well-known classics.
One of their remade classics that has fallen under public scrutiny is the new live-action Little Mermaid movie. While many people had issues with the casting choices for Ariel and her sisters, I didn’t have a problem with it. My issues with the movie came from the changes that were made regarding the original story. In my opinion, it felt like the directors didn’t care about the plot of the original movie and that they wanted to change it to fit the standards of today’s modern age. However, The Little Mermaid wasn’t the only remade film of theirs to receive criticism.
A movie that received a lot of criticism before it was even released was the live-action Snow White. Many people were upset that Disney wanted to change the iconic princess movie from a story about a young girl who dreams of finding true love while trying to escape the evil queen. To an independent girl boss who doesn’t need a prince. Honestly, it was so heavily criticized because Disney was completely changing the story of one of their most beloved movies. As expected, this didn’t go over too well with the people who grew up watching that iconic film.
Disney’s most recent remakes of classics have felt like a cheap cash grab from the movies their audience has grown to love over the decades. For now, they should just stick to making new original movies instead of messing with the old ones. They may just get better results that way, as well as a happily ever after for everyone involved.
